The incentive determines the outcome
A portal paid per tender or per lead has an interest in many enquiries and many quotes. For buyers that means sifting effort; for providers, quoting effort with little chance of a hit. Both sides pay for a metric that serves neither.
Pay the platform instead for shortlisting and award support on the buying side, and take nothing from providers, and it reverses: fewer but better-fitting quotes become the product. Which is why there is no listing fee and no paid placement here.

What curation means in practice
Curation is not a promise of quality but a documented procedure: a suitability check before admission, annual updates of capacity data, certificate checks at the expiry date, suspension after repeated broken commitments.
That limits how fast the partner base grows, and it is meant to. A base that grows faster than it can be checked is a directory again.

Two axes instead of one search box
Industrial procurement rarely searches for a discipline alone. What is sought is the combination: machining with EN 9100 for aerospace, plant assembly with explosion-protection experience for the process industry. So the marketplace is navigable along two axes — discipline and sector — that can be combined.
The next step is the provider side: partners maintaining their own capacity data and evidence, with a check before release. Only then does the currency of the data — the thing that separates this from a directory — scale.
